5 Reasons Why A Scooter Is The Perfect Christmas Gift

By Sunday, November 11, 2018 10 No tags Permalink

At this time of year when the Christmas decorations appear in shops and Michael Bublé comes on the radio, you start to think about what Santa might bring your little one. Yup, it’s time already!

I’m a big fan of any toy that encourages my kids to go outside, get some exercise and fresh air, and a scooter easily ticks all those boxes.

When it comes to scooters there’s none better than Micro Scooters. Following the simple philosophy of safety, child development, durability and fun, the innovative Swiss design of the Micro has won more than 50 awards right across the world, and it’s easy to see why.

Here’s 5 reasons why a scooter makes the perfect Christmas present for your little one:

1. Developing Balance and Coordination

You might not have thought about it yet, but a scooter is the ideal first mode of transport for your child. Micro’s scooters are great for developing balance–teaching kids how to balance using their own body weight, helping to develop muscles in their upper bodies and teaching them confidence along the way.

Scooting helps kids from as young as 2 years of age to work on coordination, endurance and overall strength without even realising they’re doing it–they’re having too much fun!

As well as being fun, it helps kids learn skills including coordination and develop motor skills, as well as encouraging them to go outside and get some exercise.

2. A Scooter For All Ages

The Micro range caters for kids of all ages, from two years of age right up to Mum and Dad! The three-wheeled range is ideal for toddlers, learning to balance and navigate the brakes at the back. And the two-wheeled scooters for older kids and adults come in various models for different skill levels.

It’s a great activity for your children to enjoy together, despite any age gap. My older daughter is 8 and youngest is 4, but all three of them can enjoy going for a ride on their scooters together–and have done since they were toddlers.

My youngest at 4 years of age now rides the Mini Micro Deluxe, with a wider board for balance and grip, it has adjustable handlebars so she can ride it up until she’s 5. Marnie started on her big sister’s hand-me-down Mini Micro (below) when she was still in nappies, so she’s now confident and capable on her scooter.

3. Scooting Teaches Confidence And Decision-Making Skills

It’s beneficial for older kids to have a scooter as well as bicycle, because bikes and scooters teach them different skills that are important for kids’ development. Using different skillsets, the ability to ride a bike AND a scooter will teach them balance, agility, confidence and decision-making skills.

Scooters are easier for shorter trips, awkward pathways or steep inclines, and much easier for younger children to learn before they reach bicycle age.  Easily maneuvered by little bodies from as young as two Micro scooters are great for busy paths and parks.

4. Scooting Is Cool

As a way to commute to school, scooting is now the ‘in’ thing. There are dozens of kids in our street that scoot to school every morning, and my older girls just love it. Scooting is also easier to control around traffic as a parent, particularly crossing multiple roads and crossings on our commute. My older girls have the Sprite and the Speed+ and I just know they feel very cool and confident on their two-wheeled scooters.

I love that the two-wheeled scooters have a stand as well, so no more dropping it on the ground to get scratched or block footpaths. Even better, both their scooters fold up really easily, perfect for family trips away or for compact storage.

5. Scooting from Toddlerhood

My girls have been riding their Micro scooters since they were all two years of age. It’s amazing how quickly they learn to use their body weight to control the scooter, and can easily stop with the foot-brake. I think it’s the best time to learn when they’re still toddlers, who seem to pick things up pretty quickly at this age anyway. Depending on your own child’s ability, as soon as they show an interest I’d recommend getting them a scooter.

The best-seller in the range is the Mini Micro, perfect for kids from two years of age. The key features of the Mini Micro include:

  • From 2 to 5 years of age
  • Adjustable handlebars
  • Unique silicon raised deck for extra stability and grip
  • Anodised stem protects the scooter from corrosion
  • Develops fine motor and balance skills
  • Stable 3 wheel design
  • Intuitive lean-to-steer action
  • Lightweight design
  • Wide non-slip deck, low to the ground
  • Quality non-marking wheels
  • Available in eight colour options: Pink, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, Purple, Aqua and Orange

A helmet is an essential piece of kit for kids who ride a scooter. Micro has a great range of scooter helmets for children so they’ll stay safe on their way to school and when they’re off an adventure.

I would love to win a new Micro Mini Deluxe Scooter for my daughter. In my very tired state of juggling being wife, mum, working and studying…I left my son’s scooter at the park. We had planned to pass it onto my daughter. #notmumoftheyearaward @jessicajanegomes

I would absolutely love to win a scooter for my daughter Maia. She often try’s to ride her big brothers one and loves it so much. He is very sweet and always gives her a turn but I would love them to be able to scoot together so to win her one would mean they would have a scooter of their own. We would spend the evenings down at the skate park together going for scooter rides and having a picnic dinner. I know the excitement she will have if she was to see a scooter under the Christmas tree for her this year. It would bring so much joy.

A scooter is already on our Christmas list for our 2-year old toddler. We want a scooter that is safe and cool but at the same time develop her skills and teach her balance and confidence. The Micro Mini Deluxe Scooter would fulfill this wish!

We would love this for our girl as she simply refused to sit in the stroller but gets tired after walking for a couple of minutes.. This will be fun and also teach her balance, steering and safety rules like wearing a helmet. It’s lightweight so it can come with us everywhere and quality lasts so hopefully her future siblings will enjoy it too!

This would be the best Christmas gift for my one year old (2 in Dec) boy. I have a 3 year old, 1 year old and 5 week old twins so as you can imagine life is pretty busy but amazing. My 3 year old loves his scooter but my nearly 2 year old doesn’t have one and always tries to use his brothers so it’d be the perfect gift for him. Also on the day’s I drop the two older boys to daycare, my eldest scooters currently and I put one twin and my 1 year old in the double pram and one twin in a front pack, you would be making this mums day as both older boys could scooter and the twins would go in the pram together….@charsophiewilliamson

My son was not really into his scooter but his sister who got handed over his scooter loves the scooter. Its not a fantastic one in the first place but it got damaged somehow while he was still using it though so she’s just been using a damaged one. Would be really awesome if she could get a scooter as she’s still quite terrified of getting onto a bicycle!
